Autism FAQs Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the early signs of autism?
Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can sometimes show signs as early as six months, and some developmental milestones may be delayed in children with autism.
Possible Signs of Autism in Babies and Toddlers:
- 6-12 months: Limited/infrequent eye contact, delayed babbling, limited verbal expressions, lack of attention
- 12-18 months: Hand flapping, repeating unusual movements, more interest in objects than people, little or no response to name
- 2 years old: Delays or lack of language development, unusual sensory responses, preference for being alone vs. socializing/playing with other kids
- No two kids are the same, so signs and symptoms will vary. If you are concerned about your child, it is always best to contact your pediatrician to discuss your concerns.
